For Library Ireland Week 2013, the Library of the Royal Irish Academy of Music presents the second in its series of online exhibitions.

RIAM Cellists and Composers explores the lives and careers of two Academy Cello Professors, Joseph Schofield and Clyde Twelvetrees. Both men wrote compositions for the cello which were inspired by traditional Irish melodies and dances. Current Academy teacher, Dr Annette Cleary, has examined the use of traditional Irish music in classical repertoire for the cello, and this exhibition is extracted from a paper she gave at the ‘New Crops, Old Fields: (Re)imagining Irish folklore’ conference in Queens University Belfast in September 2013. The online exhibition includes a video of a performance of one of Schofield’s Irish Airs by Annette Cleary and Cormac Breatnach.
